I'm so glad you posted this. This is like elder abuse. The third picture I remember for this was the poor sister in the hall, with the thought that jehovah will provide. Meaning of course, the other poor witnesses in the hall.

How do you feel about your JW childhood?
by Emily1987 ini was 5 years old when my mother was baptised.
we went from celebrating xmas to no presents or decorations.
we would still go to my unbelieving aunty's house on xmas day, all of my cousins would be playing with their new toys and would wonder why i didn't have any.

Mom baptized when I was 5. My mother was and is a cheap person. So it suited her not to celebrate anything. Most presents we got when we were kids, was from our relatives. We were jealous of xmas and halloween because of the presents and candy. We hardly ever had family get togethers unless my worldly dad visited them.
Since my dad left everything to my mom - we were girls anyway - we were dragged to all the meetings and field service. My brother escaped - because he was a boy and my dad's only interest - and he had friends and did things that were fun.
My personal experience was a life of depression, fear, anger and anxiety. My dream of being an artist was hampered by the idea of God killing me after I became of a "knowing" age. Certainly 1975 would be my last. Several times I stopped eating for days because of that fear. When I reached the age of 20, I didn't know what to do with myself.
Great and wonderful wasted life. That really is the evil of the WT. Take away dreams and life from people.

A question for you women; what was it really like for you being in the Org?
by Tallon inhi there folks.. i took a bit of time out from the forum, however i'm back again.. what was it really like for you, your experiences good or bad, etc, in the org?.
if you were granted a listening ear by the gb, what changes would you like to see implemented?.

What's sad is that many times the WT has had talks that directly put women down. The "silver sword" joke was "It's sister proof" Ha ha ha. They do these put downs and most JW women laugh at themselves. But I wonder how many think later "Why did I laugh?"

Anyone remember a skit they had at a two day assembly about a husband and wife that were new to the truth? An elder had stopped by and the couple was arguing over failings they each had. The wife had found articles on what a husband should be like in the truth. Kind, considerate etc. She wanted her husband to be like that. The audience roared with laughter. Because of course, the wife was extremely exaggerated but also, how many sisters were shaking their heads over expecting a husband to be that way? The men were laughing at the silly wife. The elder was like, how can you expect a person to be that way suddenly? It was more of a scolding than anything. Totally made me angry. I don't even remember his gripe.

You were always reminded in talks and publications, that you were the weaker sex. "A porcelan vase" that could easily break. Was it good old Paul that recomended that a woman would be kept "safe" through childbearing? Otherwise they would be just gadding about and getting into trouble?
I knew of one sister that was married and her husband thought it would be a good idea to sell their nice house and move to Hawaii for a possible job. What is so bad about doing that? Well the job fizzled, Armaggeddon didn't arrive, and they had to move back without much money and start over. She proudly said that she had to obey her husband.
A really nice sister that had been married (husband went thru mid life and ran off with another's elder wife) got remarried to another elder. On a part on the meeting about what was the best thing about the truth, he answered that the best part was that his wife was submisive. Nothing about her kindness or personality, just that she obeyed him and he made the choices.
I always felt conflicted. You were supposed to be happy over being submissive but I was also angry. A strange kind of glory of having to suffer through wrong or stupid decisions by a male. Shrug your shoulders over ineptitude cause they were calling the shots.
The only time I ever had a positive feeling from literature, was a three part article on the women that followed Jesus around. Imagine being in that time and having men consider you to be a natural born liar and untrustworthy. (not much different from the GB's view) So here is Jesus, treating women like something to be valued. I imagine a woman wrote these articles and it still sticks in my mind. There wasn't the usual down talking or qualifying in the articles. But that is the only one like that. How clever the person was in writing the Bible to start out making sure that the women could be blamed for all the miseries on earth. The GB like that idea and rub it in when ever they can.

Family is now reaping what they sowed and they don't like it.
by Gemmel ini resigned from the jw's in my 20's over 30 years ago, i was immediately shunned by my entire family and it's remained that way with a few exceptions ever since.
one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.
i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.

In my case, my father who has declined mentally and was never a jw, needed help. My mother is a JW and has two of our sisters in the org to help her. But guess what? One refused along with her husband because the house had rats - that was too dangerous for their health - and they felt they had already done enough clearing out the front yard a few years ago. Plus they blamed her and my dad and felt that they should do it all alone. The other sister showed up occasionally during the almost year it took to make it safe for the parents to live in the house.
Probably if it was just my self righteous mom, it would have been left to the sisters who claimed to be the better people because they were jw's.
Afterwards, when the house was cleaned up of rats and piles of crap and old food, they came in like they were the saviors. I bet they patted themselves on the back for "saving" her from the wicked influence of the "good samaritans"

Court documents reveal Watchtower's tactics in Montana child abuse case
by LevelThePlayingField inthere were numerous objections and claims that watchtower lawyers made to try and get out of being held responsible for their negligence and malice.
here’s the juicy ones:.
montana is a mandatory reporting state, but watchtower lawyers claimed that the law for reporting abuse only applies to “individuals” and they are “corporations”.

They seem to forget this Romans 13:4
for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
They are constantly against the authority that God has put in place according to the bible. Why don't they follow this? Hypocrites. -

Those awkward magazines
by Addison0998 ini’m sure we all remember those really weird, awkward magazines we were expected to place in service.
and it was before we are had the website or the thing on the back to fall back on.
imagine being a 12 year old girl, and having to place magazines on god’s view of pornography, sex, homosexuality.

I was out with a group. One young teen girl pulled out the latest on "Menses". She rolled her eyes and said "yes, this is the magazine we have to place. I hope it isn't a man" And then she laughed in a smirking tone. Eventually she went to college and left the religion.
